The Final Interview (Ebook)

Five years in forty minutes. One real accident. Adam Cross was a traffic engineer until an algorithm took his job. Seven months and ninety-three applications later, he sits the Helix Immersive Assessment: forty real minutes in a headset, five subjective years running Birmingham's roads. Budgets, strikes, floods, and one rainy Tuesday in November when the motorway shuts and he has three options on a screen. He chooses the safe one. He's sure he does. He passes. On the bus home, the traffic is stopped. There's been an accident at a junction in Perry Barr: the same junction he was offered, and refused, in the simulation. A woman has been hit on a crossing outside a school. With a traffic engineer who has noticed something strange in the logs, Adam goes looking for the link between his interview and the city outside. What he finds isn't just a bug. The interview was never only measuring him. THE FINAL INTERVIEW: a novella of work, judgement and the small print. Complete and standalone, from ThextonLabs.
