The Neighbourhood of Saints (Ebook)

Where kindness pays. So everyone needs rescuing. Havenbrook is a brand-new housing estate on the edge of Northampton, and a pilot. Every resident has a Good Neighbour app. Help someone and they tap Thank you. The higher your score, the lower your rent: up to forty per cent off for being kind. Clara Finch, a single mum on night shifts, moves in with her nine-year-old son, and for the first time in years people say hello on the stairs. Her son keeps a Helper Diary for school. They climb the leaderboard every Friday night at the Kindness Awards. Then Clara starts to notice that the kindest blocks have the most emergencies. The lift in her building keeps breaking down. Doors jam. An old lady keeps losing her keys and finding them in her plant pot. And the people at the top of the leaderboard always seem to be first on the scene. On the far side of the green, the two quietest blocks in Havenbrook have almost no problems at all, and according to the app, almost no kindness either.
